Este monumento natural es un espacio de destacado interés geológico y geomorfológico, en cuya configuración han intervenido importantes procesos de desmantelamiento erosivo. Se localiza en los municipios de San Mateo, Tejeda, San Bartolomé, Santa Lucía y Valsequillo.
Aquí están presentes numerosos endemismos con especies amenazadas y protegidas con normativa específica. Conforma además un paisaje por constituir un marco escénico de gran belleza y singularidad.
Los riscos de Tirajana son restos de las paredes de una enorme cuenca erosiva, originada en la cabecera del barranco de Tirajana. Todo esto ocurrió durante un periodo pasado muy árido, donde había aguaceros torrenciales esporádicos que arrastraban gran cantidad de materiales y generaban profundas barranqueras.
En este lugar destacan algunos riscos de origen erosivo como el Puntón de la Agujereada o el de Humiaga, junto con otros de distinto origen como el pitón fonolítico de Risco Blanco.
