Este parque rural comprende 26.307,4 hectáreas y alberga a un total de 4.410 habitantes. Se encuentra repartido entre los municipios de Artenara, Tejeda, San Nicolás, Mogán, San Bartolomé, San Mateo, Valleseco y Moya.
En este parque coinciden múltiples valores que justifican su protección. Alberga hábitats naturales en buen estado, abundantes especies endémicas y amenazadas, algunas de las cuales se restringen solo a este espacio natural.
Dentro de este Parque Rural se encuentra el Monumento Natural del Roque Nublo, el cual es uno de los espacios naturales más emblemáticos de la isla de Gran Canaria. Está ubicado en el centro geográfico de la isla, sobre tierras del municipio de Tejeda, en una zona muy abrupta. De origen volcánico, el roque se eleva 80 metros sobre su base y 1.813 metros sobre el nivel del mar. El Roque Nublo a su vez es uno de los mayores roques del Mundo.
En la antigüedad fue utilizado como lugar de culto aborigen. En el año 1987 fue declarado Espacio Natural y en 1994 fue declarado Parque Rural.
