Este espacio del municipio de Santa María de Guía, está constituida por materiales volcánicos y delimita un pequeño sector al oeste del barranco de Moya, donde se encuentra la mejor muestra de fayal-brezal de Gran Canaria. El espacio incluye zonas forestadas en las cuales por sus características contribuye a mantener procesos ecológicos esenciales como la recarga del acuífero y la protección de los suelos.
Aunque dentro de la reserva no hay asentamientos humanos, permanece la amenaza que provocan los núcleos de zonas marginales y los usos agrícolas dispersos.
