Esta reserva se encuentra en los municipios de Moya y Valleseco, fue declarada en 1987 como Parque Natural de Doramas y reclasificada en 1994 como reserva natural integral. Cuenta con una zona declarada como área de sensibilidad ecológica, que se corresponde con estrecha zona exterior en el cauce oeste del barranco y otra en lomos de ambos lados del espacio. Esta reserva está incluida dentro del Parque Rural de Doramas.
Este espacio se caracteriza por albergar un reducto de la mejor y más completa muestra de laurisilva de Gran Canaria, por lo que su interés radica en conservar un ecosistema prácticamente desaparecido. También cuenta con una gran riqueza florística y faunística endémica. Además del interés de la zona por su contribución a mantener procesos ecológicos esenciales destaca el singular paisaje de gran belleza que posee este pequeño barranco. La declaración como reserva natural integral se hizo con el propósito de salvaguardar la laurisilva autosustentada que alberga, al tiempo que promover su recuperación. Por esto sus límites abarcan también zonas deforestadas, para conseguir que dicha comunidad se extienda más allá de su actual distribución.
