Este municipio está situado en el norte de la isla de Gran Canaria, en las medianías, por encima del municipio de Teror. Es el municipio más joven de la Isla.
Valleseco, tiene un nombre contradictorio ya que actualmente es la zona más húmeda de Gran Canaria. Es parte de un gran bosque de laurisilva que cubre Valleseco, Teror, Firgas, y Moya.
Dentro de su patrimonio monumental destaca la iglesia de San Vicente Ferrer.
Un lugar a explorar es Calderetas, un viejo cráter de volcán, que tiene una belleza natural enorme debido a sus avellanos, nogales, etc. Las vistas son magníficas y se puede ver el mar en un día claro. Se pueden numerosos molinos, lavaderos, fuentes y canales de irrigación. Esta “Ruta del Agua” puede ser fácilmente vista desde cualquier camino de la región.
Justo en el borde del municipio está Montañón Negro, el volcán con una erupción más reciente.
