Cueva de los Verdes

The Cueva de los Verdes, located in the municipality of Haría, is a section of the Atlantis tunnel, which has an extension of 6 kilometers on the surface and 1.5 km under the sea, it is the longest volcanic tunnel in the world. The cave is part of the lava flow from the eruption of the La Corona Volcano that advanced towards the sea, more than four thousand years ago. Throughout its journey, there are at least sixteen Jameos.

The Cueva de los Verdes has a rich history, it was inhabited by the pre-Hispanic population, inside utensils have been found that explain their customs and ways of life, it has also served as a refuge against the attacks of pirates who came to the island to arrest hostages and then demand assets for their ransom or to capture indigenous people and sell them as slaves in Africa and Europe.

In 1964 Jesús Soto designed, prepared and illuminated a two-kilometer route to be visited. The tour lasts one hour, accompanied by suitable background music and a very pleasant temperature inside, it is possible to appreciate whimsical shapes in the rock, such as the stalactites originated by the dripping of the lava that are highlighted by indirect lighting .

In addition, an auditorium has been set up inside the cave that provides exceptional acoustics, ideal for concerts with wind instruments.
