Candelaria se encuentra en la cara sureste de Tenerife, a unos 17 kilómetros de Santa Cruz, la capital. La villa es conocida en toda Canarias por albergar en su Basílica la imagen de la Virgen de Candelaria, Patrona General del Archipiélago, hecho que genera cada año la visita de más de dos millones de personas.
Las calles de esta localidad costera, de gran tradición marinera y sabor popular, han sabido adaptarse a los nuevos tiempos sin perder su carácter más auténtico, combinando con naturalidad y maestría tradición y actualidad. Así, es posible encontrar rincones pintorescos y hermosos, muy próximos a centros comerciales y de ocio muy modernos.
Localidad de profundas raíces históricas, Candelaria ofrece a sus visitantes una excelente gastronomía marinera y un entorno agradable al que contribuye sin duda el carácter amable y acogedor de su gente, que se hace aún más evidente durante la celebración de sus fiestas patronales de Santa Ana y el Carmen, en julio, y las que se celebran en agosto en honor de la Virgen de Candelaria.
Sus playas, de arena oscura y evidente origen volcánico, contrastan con el verdor de sus montes. Los pueblos de Araya, Barranco Hondo, Cuevecitas, Igueste, Las Caletillas y Playa la Viuda merecen una visita.
Además, el municipio de Candelaria cuenta con un número destacado de senderos y caminos, que forman parte del patrimonio etnográfico local, estrechamente relacionados con la economía tradicional ya que los pobladores para poder desarrollar sus labores agrícolas debieron trabajar en la apertura de una amplia red de caminos locales que comunicaban todo el término municipal de cumbre a costa y también a éste con el resto de la isla.
