Construido en 1926, el Parque Municipal García Sanabria, nace de la necesidad de dotar a la ciudad de una zona ajardinada amplia, combinada con fuentes y grupos arquitectónicos. Es el mayor parque urbano de las Islas Canarias y su nombre se debe al alcalde García Sanabria, que aprobó su construcción.
Este Parque tiene una superficie de 67.230 metros cuadrados, el mismo se cerró en octubre de 2004 para ser remodelado y fue reabierto al público nuevamente en junio de 2006. Es uno de los parques públicos más importantes de la ciudad.
En este se encuentran diferentes esculturas de gran valor artístico, algunas de ellas procedentes de la I Exposición Internacional de Esculturas en la Calle, de autores como Pablo Serrano y José Guinovart, bustos de personajes ilustres de esta ciudad, y numerosos árboles y plantas catalogados como en un jardín botánico.
A su vez, en el centro del parque se levanta el Monumento a García Sanabria, obra expresionista del escultor Francisco Borges Salas y diseñado por el arquitecto Marrero Regalado; junto a esta estructura se sitúa "La Fecundidad", obra del citado escultor.
