En 1954 el Teide y todo el circo de su alrededor es englobado en el Parque Nacional de Las Cañadas del Teide.
Una red de parques nacionales en el archipiélago canario intenta conservar sus ecosistemas más característicos. Así, el Parque Nacional del Teide, situado en el centro de la isla de Tenerife, con una altitud superior a los 3700 m.s.n.m. nos ofrece una de las muestras más espectaculares del vulcanismo a nivel mundial y representa la mejor muestra de ecosistema volcánico de alta montaña de toda Canarias. La gran variedad de conos y domos, coladas de lava, pitones y cuevas forman un extraordinario conjunto de colores y formas, acrecentando el interés científico y paisajístico de este área.
En el mismo Teide se encuentra el Refugio de Montaña de Altavista y un teleférico que asciende desde su falda a unos 2350 m hasta La Rambleta, a unos 3555 m, en muy pocos minutos. El ascenso hasta la cima está permitido bajo un permiso especial.
