Camino de la Virgen

The path of the Virgin is traced on primitive routes where the shepherds led their cattle to the communal lands of La Dehesa. The route of the Camino de la Virgen exceeds 26 kilometers and crosses the island from the southwest to the northwest.

This is the route that the Virgen de los Reyes (patron saint of the Island) travels every four years on her descent from her Ermita de la Dehesa to the Iglesia de la Concepción de Valverde and is divided into sections, since the Image changes dancers or stops are made to rest from the hard pilgrimage.

The pilgrimage starts from the hermitage, where you take the path that crosses the mountain that protects the Sanctuary. The Image is transferred by the island authorities and those of the Brotherhood of the Virgin to the Stone of the Regidor, on which it is made to rest until dawn. At this point the Beloved Mother is handed over to the town, being the first to take her the Sabinosa dancers, who will continue the journey along the path delimited by stone walls, although in some sections they leave the track to take small shortcuts.
Throughout the whole road you will pass through sectors of different slopes and difficulties.
The landscape is also changing and you can see a large part of the Dehesa, and the El Golfo Valley, the southernmost part of the island, the area of ​​young volcanoes of La Restinga, the slopes of El Julan and the area of ​​the lighthouse of Orchilla, place through which the meridian 0 to 1.883 passed.

Regarding the weather, it is important to note that the wind blows frequently; if there is mist, it soaks, and if the sky is clear the insolation is high, so we must be prepared for all these circumstances.
